Talk about strategy…
near their end 32-31 victory Against No. 4 Ohio State, No. 2 Oregon had 12 players on the field. And while it was the Ducks who took the penalty, it was the Buckeyes who lost crucial seconds and ended up with a tough ending.
But when I looked into it, it was all done on purpose by Oregon.
“We spend a tremendous amount of time on situations, and some situations don't happen very often in college football, but this is obviously something we've been working on,” Ducks head coach Dan Lanning said Monday night. ” he said. “You can see the results.” (Related article: Utah's Cam Rising could play in eighth year after season-ending foot injury)
Oregon State took the lead on a 19-yard field goal from the kicker with 1:47 left in Saturday night's Big Ten thriller. Atticus Sappington. But Ohio State still had time to score the game-winning field goal of its own. The Buckeyes found themselves in a third-and-25 situation on the Ducks' own 43-yard line, and Oregon called a timeout with 10 seconds left.
Oregon defensive back before play Donte Manning appeared on the field, and Oregon State illegally had 12 players in the game. Against a 12-man defense, Ohio State was unable to get a first down, and the Ducks were flagged for an illegal substitution in the process.
The penalty earned Ohio State five yards, but it was costly as it cost the Buckeyes four seconds off the clock because it was a live-ball foul. After that, Ohio State had just six seconds to set something up. On the next play, their quarterback Will Howard ran up the middle, but by the time he slid, time had already expired and OSU was unable to call a timeout to attempt a game-winning field goal. And even more disgusting for the Buckeyes, they would have been placed on the Oregon 26.
The Grade A strategy ultimately led the Ducks to victory and moved them to No. 2 in the AP Top 25.
clock:
You have to see how genius this is 👀
With 10 minutes left, Oregon called timeout.
They are intentionally delaying adding the 12th person so that they don't make a big profit.
Ball is snapped and there is no big gain
Obviously it's a penalty
1) :04 ticks the clock
2) You won't get big profits.:06 remaining

Someone at the University of Oregon needs to give Dan Lanning a raise on this. Because, sir, that's a good strategy.
