Cowboys legend Troy Aikman had harsh words for the Dallas receiver this week on a hit local sports radio show.
The Hall of Fame quarterback criticized the Cowboys' lack of playmakers outside of CeeDee Lamb and how that makes quarterback Dak Prescott's job difficult.
After the first six weeks of the season, the Cowboys rank 19th in the NFL in scoring (21 points per game).
They went 3-3 with an embarrassing loss to the Lions, which happened to fall on the same day as owner Jerry Jones' birthday.
“I think the route is terrible,” Eichman told 1310 The Ticket. According to Pro Football Talk. “I think they're running terrible routes and I thought that's been the case this year and beyond. I think CeeDee needs to improve his route running. As a quarterback, it's important to know where your guys are at all times. If you don't know, it's difficult to play in that position. That's how I see it.
“I see players being lazy from the line of scrimmage. Sometimes they run. Usually when they do that, it's because they're expecting to get the football on that play, but If not, it's not. And it's all connected. I'm not impressed with that part.”
The three-time Super Bowl champion also noted the disconnect that seems to exist between Lamb and Prescott.
Lamb held off for a long time during training camp for a new contract, but the deal was ultimately finalized just days before the start of the 2024 season.
Aikman compared the way receivers ran routes on other teams to what's happening in Dallas, noting how difficult it is for the quarterback when you don't know where the players are on the field.
“But it's difficult to play.” [quarterback] If you're not sure how a member will run a route or where they're going, check their location. And I'm not talking about Duck. Duck might say, “Hey, I think so.” [their routes] That's amazing. 'But watching this game as a former quarterback, it should be better,' he said.
Dallas receives a bye this week and heads to San Francisco in Week 8.
