Sabo sentenced! America’s best street artist needs our support

A crackdown on crime has finally begun in Aurora, Colorado.

No, not violent Venezuelan gangs that take over apartment complexes, terrorize tenants, and beat property managers until they bleed.

“My wife is an immigrant. I must have paid over $10,000 to bring her here legally. … I … have no problems with immigration. Check. The problem lies with undocumented immigrants.”

I'm confident Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser will get there eventually.

Meanwhile, this intrepid lawyer cracks a case on his career, arresting the madman behind street art protesting the unrest caused by the city's mass immigration.

that's right. After 20 years of risking life, limb, and freedom to bring truly provocative and countercultural art to the masses, Szabo was arrested.

Gateway critic Patti McMurray reporta former Marine with formal training, was brought before a judge for sentencing last week.

Unable to afford a lawyer and unwilling to trust one provided by the state, Banksy represented himself and made a moving statement to the judge who would decide his fate:

My wife is an immigrant. I must have paid over $10,000 to get her here legally. I paid for two expensive biometric scans, medical exams, and background checks. She had to sign a document stating that she would not be a burden to taxpayers. She never spent her day worrying about having a roof over her head or where her next meal would come from. This is because we did it the right way. Like many people, I don't have a problem with immigration. We have a problem with unchecked illegal immigration.

I'm a self-employed artist and educated at a world-class art university. I know my country. I speak the language. I am familiar with the market of my chosen profession, but considering all these things I can no longer afford to live in my country. How do these immigrants have any hope of getting here, at least without financially bankrupting our communities, while ignoring America's forgotten and poor people, including veterans living on the streets? Is there one?

These newcomers, some of them extremely violent, are constantly thrown into underrepresented communities, making an already bad situation even worse. Last winter, tens of thousands of improperly vetted immigrants, many of them in the country illegally, were dropped off in Denver in -12 degree weather. Many had to endure the cold inside tents. Some were reportedly forced to sell their wives, daughters, and girlfriends into prostitution to avoid starving or freezing to death. Politicians on both sides of the political aisle should be ashamed of what they have done to the world's poorest people by tricking them into coming here, especially in the middle of winter.

I hope we still have the First Amendment in place to protect political art, which is what it was meant to be. Nothing was destroyed or permanently damaged, except maybe some local politicians' feelings about the mess they had made.

Now, Szabo must pay a fine and perform community service. Meanwhile, you have to continue to support yourself and your work on a limited budget.

In an email to Align, Szabo emphasized that he is not alone in sticking his neck out to spread the truth.

“My chief assistant is quitting her job as a mother and I would like to spend time with him too,” he wrote. “And I’m not rich, so this will help. [done more to help] We put out more art than anyone I know. ”
