3 Little-Known Perks of the Amex Platinum Card – The Motley Fool

The Platinum Card® from American Express is packed with features. The annual fee is $695 ( Rates and fees), and if you can take advantage of its benefits, you could be worth more than $1,000 a year.

This card has so many benefits that some of them may get lost during the shuffle. You probably already know about the big names, like airport lounge access and travel credits. Terms and conditions apply. But there are also some unique perks that are rarely discussed and are worth knowing about.

1. Companion Platinum Card for $0

You have two options when adding authorized users to your account. Platinum cards can be added for $195 each. It can be expensive, especially if you have multiple people you want to add to your account.

Another option is to add a companion Platinum card. Add as many as you need at no cost.

The Companion Platinum Card doesn't have as many benefits as the Additional Platinum Card. For example, it does not include access to its own lounge. However, they have Up to $100 in Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credits every four years. 2. Save money on airfare with international aviation programs

If you frequently book expensive international flights, an international airline program may be helpful. This program is available to Platinum Card® members. it provides When you fly internationally, you have exclusive access to low fares in Premium Economy Class, Business Class and First Class. Savings vary, and international programs may not always have the lowest prices. We recommend comparing prices first. However, online research showed that international airline programs were offering discounts ranging from $500 to more than $1,000 on some airfares.

Booking travel this way usually doesn't make the most of your points. Like many other travel points cards, you can get the most value by transferring your points to airline and hotel partners. But if you have enough points, it might be worth using them to book a flight with cash.

3. Walmart+ credits — also earn Paramount+

One of the many payment credits on this American Express card is $155 Walmart+ credit. When you pay for your monthly Walmart+ membership using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you'll receive a statement credit covering the full amount ($12.95 plus applicable taxes and fees) each month. You may already know about its perks. If not, it's worth using. Walmart+ includes free delivery. Walmart has very low prices, so it's a great way to save money while getting your groceries delivered to your door.

Another benefit that many people don't know about is: Streaming service Paramount+ is included in Walmart+. Get it for free when you subscribe to the Paramount+ Essential plan (usually $5.99 per month) through Walmart+. That means you get two subscriptions for a price of $0.
