Donald Trump surprises Bronx barbershop with visit as Queens native tells patrons ‘you guys are the same as me’

Former President Donald Trump stopped by Knockout Barber in the Bronx on Thursday. This was my second recent visit to Boogie Down as the presidential election quickly approaches.

The visit, part of an upcoming “Fox & Friends” corner, surprised Javier Rodriguez, 33, the store's co-owner.

“Honestly, this just happened out of nowhere,” he told reporters afterward.

“Everyone was shocked to see him, but as soon as he walked in he started telling jokes and gave us a warm feeling. Everyone was a little less nervous and as he walked by, everyone shook my hand,” the barber shop owner told The Post Friday.

Rodriguez remained tight-lipped about what he discussed with the 2024 Republican presidential candidate, other than discussing the Bronx and local schools.

“I'm satisfied with the conservation work we've done,” he told reporters Thursday.

“I feel like he's the one.”

Rodriguez, who is registered as a Democrat, said he voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 but has not yet decided who he will choose in November.

“We're going to make that decision in a vote,” Rodriguez added.

But his father, Javier Rodriguez Sr., told the Post on Friday that Trump has his vote.

“I voted twice. [for Trump] And now I'm going to vote again,'' said Rodriguez Sr., also a registered Democrat.

The 59-year-old former owner of Knockout Barber said he likes President Trump's approach to the economy.

“I like Donald Trump. I like his policies. I'm a Democrat, but I don't like what the Democrats have done to the American people. What I like about Trump “First of all, we're trying to lower taxes on tips and Social Security,” he said.

Scores of supporters and protesters alike, including some wearing “Make Barbers Great Again” shirts, gathered outside a barbershop on Castle Hill Avenue to catch a glimpse of President Trump during his visit Thursday.

However, onlookers' view was blocked by a tent erected at the store's entrance, an apparent effort by Secret Service agents to protect President Trump, who recently witnessed two assassination attempts.

The stop was part of a series of barbershop visits by “Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones.

Mr. Trump's interview inside the store will be broadcast on the Fox News morning show on October 21st.

“You're just like me,” Trump, a 78-year-old billionaire, told customers at his barbershop, according to a preview aired on “Fox & Friends.”

“It's the same thing. We were born the same way. I grew up in Queens and all that.”

Appearing on “Fox & Friends” Friday morning, President Trump reflected on the trip and boasted about polls showing progress in reaching black and Hispanic voters.

The Queens native last stopped in the Bronx in May, as part of his campaign's strategy to reach out to traditional Democratic voters.

But his chances of winning in his home state of New York remain slim.

In a recent Siena College poll, 55% of prospective Empire State voters surveyed said they would choose Vice President Kamala Harris, while 42% said they would choose Trump.

For more than a year, polls have shown Trump to do better with black voters than any Republican candidate since Richard Nixon in 1960.

Trump won just 8% of black voters against Hillary Clinton in 2016, according to CNN exit polls, but won by double digits against Biden in 2020, with demographic received 12% of the total.
