IDF Publishes Video of Yahya Sinwar Fleeing with Luxury Goods Before Oct. 7

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Saturday released footage of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar escaping from a basement with luxury goods late at night on October 6, 2023. His wife had a $32,000 handbag.

Sinwar knew that Hamas was planning a major terrorist attack on Israel the next day, and clearly knew that he would be a prime target once the invasion occurred. He moved his family underground, taking with them their luxury goods and cash.

IDF Arabic spokesperson Col. Avichai Adlai identified the bag belonging to Sinwar's wife as a Hermès Birkin bag with a retail value of $32,000.

Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Hagari presented the footage, noting that Sinwar descended into the basement of Khan Younis to “keep his location secret.”

He added: “This was a luxury that the people of Gaza did not have. Sinwar always put himself, his money, and the Hamas terrorists before the people of Gaza.”

Mr. Sinwar was killed on Wednesday in a chance encounter with IDF forces in Rafah, near the border with Egypt. “This was his first and last encounter with Israeli soldiers and he was eliminated,” Hagari stressed.
