At least 21 people were shot, five of them fatally, over the weekend in Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's (D) city.
ABC7 reported The first shooting of the weekend occurred Saturday at 8:41 p.m. in the “3800 block of South Ellis Avenue,” police said. Two men opened fire on the 32-year-old man, hitting him multiple times in the chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
The second shooting occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday, when a 36-year-old man was shot in the chest. He was also taken to the hospital, where he died.
Two hours later, just after 4 a.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old boy was found in the 8500 block of Saginaw Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died after being taken to the hospital.
The fourth shooting of the weekend occurred at the Northside Morse CTA Red Line stop just after 8 p.m. A 27-year-old man was standing outside when someone opened fire from inside an SUV, fatally wounding him.
CBS News noticed The last fatal shooting of the weekend occurred “near 56th Street and Maplewood Avenue,” where a 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were walking. Two suspects opened fire on the teens, hitting a 17-year-old multiple times, with one bullet grazing a 14-year-old. The 17-year-old boy died from his injuries.
