In schools in Springfield, Ohio, immigrant students are given much easier grading criteria, and they are still considered “language learners” of English, effectively shielding them from failure. This was confirmed in an email from the superintendent.
High school principals in the Northwestern Local School District previously sent an email to Northwestern Junior/Senior staff. High schools are instructing so-called “English language learners” (often referred to as ELL students) not to receive grades lower than a “C,” Superintendent Jeff Patrick has learned from Blaze News. Confirmed via email.
“I feel like there's a better solution.”
“E-mail is [from the principal] Indeed, the Ohio school system states that it will not give ELL students grades lower than a “C” based on the fact that for the first three years, ELL students are considered language learners. Patrick wrote in an Oct. 9 email. .
Blaze News reached out to Patrick and asked him a series of questions, including whether ELL students can still receive a passing grade if they fail to submit assignments or attend class as required. Patrick didn't respond.
However, Mr Patrick suggested in an email seen by Blaze News that the school's grading policy may soon change.
“I tasked the director of instruction and his team of administrators with coming up with a better solution to this grading problem because it seemed like a better solution might be possible,” he wrote.

Patrick did not respond to Blaze News' questions, so it is unclear whether U.S. citizen, native English-speaking students received failing grades and ELL students received failing grades.

The student handbook also warns that chronically absent students and their parents or guardians may be prosecuted in local government courts. Truancy can even affect a student's ability to obtain a state driver's license, even though some of the city's 20,000 Haitian immigrants have been arrested for driving without a license.
Springfield, Ohio, has been in the national spotlight for more than a year after an unauthorized Haitian immigrant there crashed into a school bus, killing 11-year-old Aiden Clark.
During last month's presidential debate, former President Donald Trump also suggested that some Haitian immigrants in Springfield were eating pets. Democrats balked at the proposal, but Springfield residents said in a statement that wildlife abuse is a problem in the area.
“I [saw] “There was a group of Haitians, about four of them, and they all had geese in their hands,” one resident said during a 911 call on Aug. 26.
“They're grabbing ducks by the neck in the park, decapitating them, walking away with them and eating them,” Springfield resident Anthony Harris, 28, told the City Council in August.
“I don't know how you can all be happy with this.”
