On Sunday, the 2024 Republican campaign issued a statement claiming that the program acknowledged that through editing, it made Harris' statements sound more eloquent and “incoherent.” They also demanded that the program release its full records.
“60 Minutes just admitted that they did the exact same thing that President Trump accused them of doing. They changed other parts of Kamala Harris' answers to make her sound more incoherent than she really is.'' Edited to separate response. Their statement is not a denial, but an admission that they did the very thing they were accused of.” “This is yet another reminder of how hopelessly biased 60 Minutes is, and how right President Trump was in declining the invitation to be the subject of a fake news hack. Publish your transcript!”
but, CBS News It issued a statement shortly after receiving the accusations, refuting the Trump campaign's claims about how the show deceived viewers.
“Former President Donald Trump is accusing 60 Minutes of deceptively editing his Oct. 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. That is false,” the statement began.
“'60 Minutes' published an excerpt of our interview on 'Face the Nation,' where some of her answers were longer than on 60 Minutes. Same question. Same question. But different parts of the response. When editing interviews with politicians, athletes, movie stars, etc., we try to be clear, accurate, and to the point. The segment was more concise, allowing more time for other subjects within the broader 21-minute segment.”
They went on to claim that President Trump “abandoned his interview with 60 Minutes and was joined by the vice president.” However, the Trump campaign has denied ever receiving a formal invitation to the press conference.
The statement continued: “The long-standing invitation to former President Trump remains open.” “If he would like to discuss issues facing the country or the interview with Mr. Harris, he would be happy to appear on 60 Minutes.”
The back-and-forth accusations continue since earlier this month. CBS News A 60 Minutes interview with Harris aired two very different answers to the same question. She was initially ridiculed on social media when footage of her serving a long, chaotic “word salad” was aired. CBSon “Face the Nation” and social media platforms to promote the “60 Minutes” sit-in.
Problems then arose when viewers realized that the long answers they saw on social media didn't make it into the “60 Minutes” version that ultimately aired. Rather, a shorter, more eloquent answer to the same question was broadcast instead. since then, CBS Some believe Harris intentionally used a different, more flattering clip of her answering the question after the backlash against the first version, which has faced backlash.
