Harris Changed Views Because She’s ‘Open-Minded’, But She Often Won’t Say Why She Changed

On CNBC's Monday broadcast of “Squawk Box,” Mark Cuban, the billionaire co-founder of the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, spoke about 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' vice president. “She is not an ideologue” because the president has changed his views on many positions, he said. She's open-minded. ''But she admitted that she often doesn't talk about what she learned from that experience that led her to change.

Cuban said former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential candidate, had previously vowed to tax the oil industry and wipe it out. “Candidates change over the years. That's why Kamala Harris… That's one of the great things about it: She's not an ideologue. That's why she's changed. Donald Trump thinks he knows everything.”

Co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin said: “So Mark, do you think she should be interviewed more and, more importantly, talk about how she's changed and what's changed?” Did you grow up? Because, in truth, she is often asked how different she is. She'll say I'm going to be different than Biden, but won't really explain what the difference is or be asked about what she would have done if it were her. She doesn't give me real working examples when I've done it differently in the past, or she doesn't answer well when I've been asked about something before, and in fact, I've never learned anything from this or that. And I — maybe we made a mistake and, in fact, I'm a better candidate because of it. ”

When Mr. Sorkin said that Mr. Harris didn't learn from things, Mr. Cuban replied, “That's true.”

Sorkin continued: “For some reason, puzzling to me at least, she doesn't. That's not the answer you hear. Often it's actually about whether she believes her point of view is always consistent or not. This is the answer.

Cuban replied: We will handle some things differently, but there are still two weeks left and different stages of the campaign will require different discussions. She was behind in favorability and recognition… 12, 13 weeks ago, she was way behind Donald Trump, whatever that was, and now they're in a dead heat. In other words, no matter what she's doing, she'll be caught up. And now, over the next few weeks, she will decide how best to communicate. But I think what's really important is getting votes, and whatever she's doing to get votes is important, and that's why she's going where she wants to go and what she's doing now. I think they are doing it. ”

Later in the interview, Cuban said Harris had made it “very clear” that she was “going to keep an open mind.” She is – again, not an ideologue. ”
