Two passengers on a Colorado Transit bus used their wits to cause the driver to fall from his seat while the vehicle was in motion, leading to a potentially tragic incident, officials said. stopped.

A Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) bus driver in Colorado Springs experienced a medical emergency around 7:45 a.m. on Oct. 14, authorities told FOX News Digital.

Officials said one of the passengers noticed the driver's “predicament” and moved to the front of the bus before the driver fell from his seat.

Another one jumped out of the back of the bus and took control, brought the bus to a safe stop and contacted dispatchers over the bus radio.

“Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the driver died,” the agency said in a statement.

There were only three passengers on the bus at the time of the incident.

One person is seen holding what appears to be a coffee cup and can be heard asking the unseen driver, “Are you okay?”

Another voice can be heard telling a dispatcher over the radio to report an emergency while the vehicle is stopped at a bus stop.

“Ride number 1, southbound,” said the second passenger. “The bus driver is having a seizure. We're stopping the bus.”

When the bus stopped, he said, “He is breathing, but the seizure seems to have subsided.''

MMT spokeswoman Elaine Sheridan told FOX News Digital that MMT has the name of the second passenger who jumped into the driver's seat, but could not be reached for permission to release his identity. he said.

The other passenger left the scene before paramedics arrived because he had to go to work.

“We have publicly asked these passengers to contact us as we would like to provide them with a pass as a token of our appreciation for their assistance that morning,” Mr Sheridan said.

She noted that the driver's name cannot be released due to HIPAA regulations and that his family has requested privacy.

All MMT bus drivers work for Transdev, a contractor that provides operators to transit agencies.
