Halloween-focused Texas mom uses pumpkins and gourds to decorate front porches

A Texas woman with a passion for design is turning her hobby into a booming side hustle.

Heather Torres is a 41-year-old stay-at-home mom from Dallas, Texas. Her side hustle is decorating the front doors of homes for the fall holidays. (See the video at the top of this article.)

Torres decorated her front porch with pumpkins and Halloween decorations in 2020 after neighbors complimented her home's decorations and asked her to do the same on their porch, SWNS reported. It is said that it has started.

“When I started, I was doing pouches two or three times a day. Yesterday I did 89 pouches by myself,” she told the outlet.

She begins preparing for the season and begins taking orders in July. Sometimes I get inspiration from things around me.

Torres said she visited the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden many years ago and was inspired to always have a pumpkin display at home.

“They'll create a little pumpkin village where you can walk and see all kinds of pumpkins,” she said.

Torres said it inspired her. She bought 45 pumpkins of various sizes and shapes for her front garden.

In 2013, Torres had her first porch display.

She said she initially expanded the display into the garden and then limited it to just the front porch area.

“I created a design and started using different types of pumpkins,” she said.

Customers spend between $325 and $1,350 to decorate their porches for fall.

“Then friends and neighbors asked if I could do it.”

Torres told FOX News Digital today that she sources pumpkins from all over Texas to support local farmers.

“The way I create displays for my clients is to display beautiful specialty pumpkins in the front. Pumpkins in all colors, including pink porcelain doll pumpkins, gray Jaradelle pumpkins, red Cinderella pumpkins, and white Cinderella pumpkins. ” she said. he told FOX News Digital.

“We also consider the best placement of pumpkins for each design, including porch entrances and porches,” she said.

In 2020, she decorated 250 homes in the area and earned $100,000 from her side hobby.

This year, Torres told Fox News Digital that her company, Porch Pumpkins, has decorated and designed more than 1,000 homes.

Porch Pumpkins says that within five to 35 minutes, your home's front door will be transformed into a decked-out deck of festive decorations.

In December, when the fall season ends, Torres' company returns to the decorated homes and takes down the displays.

“I love the holidays. I think October and pumpkin season is the beginning of the holidays and the beginning of festivities,” she told SWNS.

Torres believes the displays “make people very happy and bring joy.”
