It was on September 1, 1985 that Dr. Robert Ballard and his team discovered the ship's wreckage approximately 12,600 feet below sea level. Off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

Since the wreckage of the Titanic was discovered, less than 250 people have seen it with their own eyes.

One man who visited the Titanic wreck site many times throughout his life was Alfred Al Giddings.

Giddings is an underwater cinematographer best known for his work on Oscar-winning director James Cameron's Titanic, on which Giddings co-produced and also served as underwater cinematographer.

Giddings, known for films such as “The Deep,'' “For Your Eyes Only'' and “The Abyss,'' made 17 dives into the Titanic wreckage during his lifetime.

Paxton himself visited the Titanic wreck with Cameron. The experience was captured on film in a 2003 documentary titled “Ghosts of the Abyss.”

“Al Giddings has lived an extraordinary life filled with experiences only the most intrepid adventurers could dream of,” a Sotheby's press release said. “For 50 years these watches have traveled the world with him, from the icy realms of the Arctic to the depths of the ocean. No other watch can boast such extensive underwater exposure. Especially made of steel. The model has been accumulated dozens of times, even if it has spent hundreds of thousands of hours under the waves.
