Ex-NASCAR driver at center of ‘Let’s go Brandon!’ chant hopes phrase ends after Election Day

The famous “Let's Go Brandon!” chant, which became an anti-Biden jab, was born when Brandon Brown won his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega.

The crowd chanted “Fa, Joe Biden,” while an NBC sports reporter at the time told Brown that they were shouting “Let's go Brandon!” This moment in 2021 has given rise to a political slogan used by former President Donald Trump's supporters to attack Biden.

Brown wrote on social media Tuesday that he hopes to finally see an end to the slogan on Election Day 2024.

“So today this word goes away and I hope you all sponsor me again, thank you!!!” Brown wrote about X.

This is Brown's first post since writing about Matthew Perry's death on October 28, 2023.

The win at Talladega that brought him attention was also the only victory of his career. He has not competed in the Xfinity Series since 2022.

Brown told The Associated Press in October 2021 that the euphemism actually ended up hurting the race team. The family-owned team has struggled to attract sponsors, and its partners have stopped promoting their drivers since the slogan became a presidential political flashpoint.
