DUBLIN — A woman who accuses Conor McGregor of sexually assaulting her in a Dublin hotel in 2018 testified in an Irish court on Tuesday at the start of a civil lawsuit seeking financial damages from the mixed martial arts star.
Mr McGregor was at the High Court in Dublin for the start of the case, which is expected to last about two weeks.
The alleged incident occurred on December 9, 2018, and a civil lawsuit was filed in 2021.
McGregor and another man, James Lawrence, are defendants.
McGregor spokesperson has previously denied the chargesIrish police said they investigated but declined to press criminal charges.
Britain's PA news agency reported that in her testimony, the woman told McGregor that she felt uncomfortable after being alone with him in the bedroom of a penthouse suite at a hotel in Dublin.
“I tried to tell him that I didn't want sex and that I wasn't here for anything like that,” the woman said of McGregor in court. “He didn't take no for an answer.”
The woman's lawyer, John Gordon, said she and McGregor knew each other because they were in the same age group and from the same area, had mutual friends and had been in contact at various times through social media. said.
Daniel Keene, a gynecologist and forensic scientist in sexual assault cases, also testified on the first day of the case.
Mr Keene said the woman was “shaking and crying” the day after she was taken to the hospital where she works for the alleged assault.
He detailed that the woman had bruises all over her body and said the extent of the injuries was “highly unusual”.
The Pennsylvania Press reported that McGregor's lawyer will argue that McGregor's actions with the woman were consensual.
It was not immediately clear when they would announce their claims.
