Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney ran into a bit of a hiccup as he interrupted his preparations for Saturday's game against Virginia Tech to fulfill his civic duties.
It appears he has already voted in the 2024 presidential election.
The only problem? Actually that wasn't the case.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the football coach revealed that he plans to start his day at the polling station. What I thought was a quick “10 minute” detour turned out to be a much longer process.
“I went to vote. I tried my best this morning to vote and they told me I couldn't vote. That was quite an experience,” Swinney said with a smile, adding that the issue was originally announced last weekend. He added that he thought it had something to do with Clemson's loss to Louisville.
“Damn. They voted me out of state. I lost the game. We're 6-2 and 5-1 (in conference). They sent me out.”
Swinney went on to explain that he was told he had already voted by mail last week.
“He said I already voted, and I was like, 'No, I guarantee you I haven't.'”

“As it turns out, my oldest son, Will, voted last week and they somehow messed up and didn't check his birthday or something, and they counted me as a vote. So what used to take 10 minutes now took an hour.”
Swinney said they would have to fill out a paper ballot instead and that a public hearing would be held Friday to resolve the issue, but he balked at that timeline.
“It was a great experience this morning. But apparently they're going to fix it on Friday, so me and Will, our two votes will be counted on Friday. Does Friday matter? I don't know. I try my best to be a good citizen and vote, but sometimes my best efforts aren't enough.”
