Two days after being re-elected, Virginia Rep. Gerald “Jerry” Connolly announced that he has esophageal cancer.
In an “open letter to voters”, Mr Connolly called his diagnosis a “surprise” after learning of it “a few days ago”, adding that he had no symptoms apart from “intermittent abdominal pains and pains”.
The politician said he would begin chemotherapy and immunotherapy immediately.
“I'm going to attack this issue the only way I know how, with Irish fight and good humor,” he said, adding that while he was working in his constituency and on Parliament Hill, he was “a bit off due to medical treatment.” He might be tired,” he added.
