Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) held a press conference Thursday to discuss the implications of the election, saying that if someone is going to “come for my people,” they need to “come through me.” I warned you that there is.
“People often refer to me as a happy warrior, and I have always taken seriously my role as a happy warrior representing this country. Even today, I remain optimistic about the future.” Pritzker said.
“Let us remind those who seek to take away the freedom, opportunity and dignity of Illinoisans that a happy warrior is still a warrior,” he continued. “You have come for my people, you have come through me.”
The governor said his state will continue to work to protect everyone, no matter what happens in President Trump's second term.
“Maybe this time it will be different, but even if it isn't, Illinois will continue to be a place of stability and competent governance,” Pritzker said.
He thanked election officials and the people of the state who voted. The governor echoed Vice President Harris in his concession speech, saying change may take a little longer than people expected.
“Casting a vote is a wish for the future. You may live to see that wish come true, or you may wait a long time for your vote to finally live. “Sometimes you have to accept that it's a down payment on a house,” he said.
