FDA proposes removing ineffective nasal decongestants from most cold medicines

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed that a common ingredient in most oral over-the-counter cold medicines be removed from the market because they are ineffective. This move moves the FDA one step closer to removing products containing oral phenylephrine from store shelves. FDA officials said the agency's review of available data found that oral phenylephrine is not effective as a nasal decongestant when taken in liquid form.
