Charissa Thompson honors Kirk Herbstreit’s golden retriever Ben

The “Thursday Night Football” staff mourned the death of Kirk Herbstreit's beloved dog Ben, and host Carissa Thompson paid tribute to him on air before the Ravens vs. Bengals showdown.

Herbstreit, a college football analyst for Prime Video broadcasts and ESPN, announced that Ben was forced to step down Thursday afternoon after a battle with cancer.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to teammate Kirk Herbstreit on the passing of his beloved dog Ben. We all loved seeing Ben here every week. He was a huge part of the TNF family. I’m going to miss him very much,” Thompson said.

The beloved golden retriever traveled with Herb Streit to the game on a private plane and held a special place in the hearts of soccer fans.

Ben was regularly seen wagging his tail and smiling broadly on broadcast sets, and was more often the center of attention on the football sidelines than Herbstreit.

In an emotional announcement Thursday, Herbstreit called Ben “1.” [of] 1” in another post He expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support.

“I am truly overwhelmed by how many people he touched and thank you from the bottom of my heart for wishing you all the best and letting me know how much you loved him.” ” he wrote.

Other members of the Herbstreit clan posted memories of Ben, including his son Jake, a former walk-on safety at Clemson University, and videos of college football fans rooting for their deceased pets.

“This is a very nice video from when I was in Texas a few weeks ago,” he wrote. “Seeing the audience's reaction always makes me smile. I'm so happy that so many people met Benny through the screen and on campuses across the country. He was my best buddy, and I will be with him until the end.” I am truly grateful that I was able to do so.
