How Tim Scott plans to capitalize on GOP Senate gains

Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina has announced that he is running for chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the campaign arm of the Senate Republican Party.

Scott, a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump, was rumored to be eyeing the post last month and acknowledged his ambitions in a statement Friday. Scott's announcement follows the Republican Party's Senate sweep, with Republicans flipping seats in Montana, West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

“Let's try this!” Scott said in a statement. “I'm running for NRSC chairman because two years of Republican policy is good, but four years of success under Donald J. Trump is even better.”

“Tim’s inspirational message, fundraising record and vision for the party make him the perfect partner for President Trump.”

“So his entire four years as president would produce low inflation, secure borders, safe streets, and a generation of American prosperity!” Scott continued. “With Donald J. Trump in the White House and Republicans in control of the U.S. Senate, we will protect our majority in 2026 and create opportunity for all Americans.”

Scott, who has harbored presidential ambitions this term, received high-profile endorsements upon his announcement, including the current NRSC chairman, Sen. Steve Daines of Montana.

“We took back the U.S. Senate in 2024, and there is no one more trustworthy to protect the majority in 2026 than Tim Scott,” Daines said in a statement.

Scott also received support from his Republican colleagues, including Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

“Tim's inspirational message, fundraising record and vision for the party make him the perfect partner for President Trump,” Barrasso said. “Together, they will protect and grow the Republican majority. There is no one better than Tim Scott.”

“Protecting the majority and growing the party starts with the vision and resources to compete anywhere,” Rubio said. “That's why I'm confident Tim will lead NRSC in 2026.”
