KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – One person was killed and 13 others injured by a Russian drone overnight in a residential area of the Ukrainian port city of Odesa, local officials said Saturday. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has arrived in Kiev for negotiations. Assistance to Ukraine.
Odesa region governor Ole Kiper said the drone's “fall” had damaged high-rise residential buildings, private homes and warehouses. He did not say whether the drone was shot down by air defense forces.
A further 32 Russian-made drones were shot down in 10 regions of Ukraine, and 18 were “lost” after likely being electronically jammed, Ukraine's air force said.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Telekhov announced that Russian aerial bombs struck a busy highway in the northeastern Kharkiv region overnight. No casualties were reported.
Russia has stepped up its air campaign, and Ukrainian officials say they need more Western support to counter it. But questions are deepening about what Kyiv can expect from the new US administration. President-elect Donald Trump has repeatedly taken issue with U.S. aid to Ukraine, made vague vows to end the war and praised Russian President Vladimir Putin.
But Borrell reassured Ukraine of European support when he arrived in Kiev on Saturday.
“EU support for Ukraine has been a personal priority of mine during my term in office and will remain at the top of the EU's agenda,” he wrote to X.
Russia's Ministry of Defense announced that 50 Ukrainian drones were destroyed in seven Russian regions, more than half of which border Ukraine.
