Trump to meet with Biden next week after election victory

President-elect Trump is scheduled to meet with President Biden at the White House next week following his decisive election victory over Vice President Harris.

The White House said in a statement Saturday that the event will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET. statement. Traditionally, the visit marks a peaceful transfer of power between the incoming and outgoing president.

The ceremony was suspended in 2020 amid President Trump's baseless claims that the election was stolen. The former president has not acknowledged his previous loss to Biden and did not attend the 2021 inauguration.

Trump was declared the winner of the White House race earlier this week, sweeping the battleground states. Harris conceded the race to her Republican rival in a speech Thursday afternoon at her alma mater, Howard University.

Biden said in his address to the nation early Thursday that he had invited Trump to the Oval Office. The president, who withdrew from the White House race in late July and supported his vice president, called the president-elect after his victory to congratulate him.

In the call, Biden said his administration would “work with the team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of power.”

“That's what the American people deserve,” he said, praising the efforts of Harris and her campaign despite the upset.

Trump accepted the invitation, said he was “looking forward to it” and appreciated the invitation, his campaign said.

The Hill has reached out to President Trump's press secretary for comment.
