The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrived in New York City on Saturday, marking the start of the Big Apple's holiday season.

A 74-foot Norway spruce from Massachusetts was driven into Manhattan's Center Plaza and hoisted into place by crane. It would take an eight-mile beam of light with more than 50,000 multicolored LED bulbs to wrap around the 43-foot-diameter tree. The top is decorated with a Swarovski star crown made of 3 million sparkling crystals.

The towering conifer tree, donated by the Albert family of West Stockbridge, Mass., was cut down Thursday morning and loaded onto a flatbed truck for the 140-mile journey.
This is the first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree from the Bay State since 1959.

The lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 4th.
Once finally cut down in January, the trees will be milled into timber for human habitat.
