This is a bad example of Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel put your hand on your teammate's neck — Long snapper Tabor Pepper — Late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The altercation occurred shortly after 49ers kicker Jake Moody missed his third field goal of the game. San Francisco was leading by three points at this point, but an error gave the ball back to Baker Mayfield and others with about three minutes left.
Upon returning to the sideline, Samuel began barking at his teammates on special teams to “straighten up,” Pepper told reporters after the game.
The altercation turned physical when the star wideout wrapped one hand under Pepper's helmet and around his neck and punched Moody.
The long snapper stepped forward as if to challenge Samuel, but Moody stopped him.
In the post-match press conference, Samuel admitted to cheating, explaining: [got] I was irritated by the intense fighting. ”
“It was a really close race, so it was a little out of character.” samuel said. “If we talk to Moody, we'll get through it…but he went out there and won the game…so we'll get through it.”
He missed a 49-yard kick in the second quarter, missed a second one from 50 yards in the third, and made a spectacular 44-yard shot in the fourth, but he converted from 44 yards as time expired, and Moody He was crowned the king of San Francisco. It secured the 49ers' second straight victory.
By the time the celebration was over, that jaw pain was a distant memory.
“Yes, this is an emotional game.” Moody said. “Things like that happen a lot, you just move past it and move on, that’s all that matters.
“There's no need for that. [an apology]. It happens. At the end of the day you have to kick. That's all I'm focused on. I'm not worried about anything. [other than] that. “
Not even pepper.
“We knew what our job was and they took it on.” the seven-year veteran told reporters.. “Being a specialist is hard. Sometimes it's feast or famine. As a young, growing specialist like Jake, the best mental exercise you can do is fail three times in a row, step up and almost You have to make a 50-yard game-winner. So I'm very proud of Jake.”
Moody, in his second season with the 49ers, had converted on 15 of 16 attempts before Sunday's game.
Next Sunday, San Francisco hosts Seattle at 4:05 p.m.
