The historic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrived in New York City on Saturday, marking the start of the holiday season.

The 11-ton, 74-foot tree traveled 220 kilometers from Massachusetts into Manhattan on Nov. 9, escorted by authorities.th.
A giant Norway spruce requires approximately 8 miles of luminous flux with more than 50,000 RGB LED bulbs to cover the entire tree.
The appearance of the Christmas tree commemorates the 93rd anniversary.rd It was a year of tradition for the city and was the first tree shipped from Massachusetts since 1959.
New Yorkers watched as a crane lifted the giant Christmas tree into place.
“We had a big crowd today. They were one of the largest crowds I've ever seen for a tree-planting event,” said Eric Pause, head gardener at Rockefeller Center.
“I'm ready for Christmas in New York,” said Bri Patel, 30, of Flushing, Queens.
“I feel so happy, like Christmas has arrived. This is the first time I've woken up so early for anything,” she added. “But I got up here from Flushing at 6:30 a.m. just to see the trees. It put me in the holiday spirit.”
Another resident, Piper Figlio, 20, who is in New York for an internship, added: “It makes me feel so happy…It feels like Christmas has arrived.” I'll be in New York for most of my vacation, so I'm ready to do whatever they have to offer…I'll be back for the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Oh my god, it will feel so magical. So ready. ”
The official tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 4th.th.
