Tony Perkins Prays Trump ‘Surrounds Himself with Godly Counsel’

Family advocate Tony Perkins said President-elect Trump needs “urgent” prayers as he selects his cabinet and appoints key leaders who will surround him in the White House for the next four years. Christians should pray that President Trump chooses someone who will provide wise counsel, Perkins said. Perkins is president of the Family Research Council.

“Urgent prayer needed,” Perkins wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Please pray that President-elect Donald Trump will be surrounded by godly counselors as he selects his Cabinet and administration. Proverbs 11:14 “Without counsel, people fall. But when there are many counselors, they are safe.”

about him washington watch Perkins said on the podcast that President Trump needs prayers because he has “already made important appointments.” The Family Research Council this week launched Operation Prayer Shield, a 10-week prayer initiative for leaders and the nation.

“I believe this season will require greater mental vigilance, foresight and cohesion,” Perkins said.

The Senate must approve more than 1,200 Trump appointees.

“Please pray for our country to be protected for the incoming administration, the outgoing administration, and this window in between,” Perkins said.

Perkins said “a lot of stupid things” could happen during a lame-duck session of Congress.

“We need to pray for the president to bring together the right team of godly men and women who will provide godly counsel,” Perkins said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson told Perkins that the Republican-controlled Congress is ready to carry out President Trump's policies.

“The bottom line is that in the first 100 days of the agenda, the first 100 days of the new Congress starting in early January, we will be able to get out there and start putting issues in committee early on. That's true,” Johnson said. Said. “…We will have a President Trump. I believe this next Congress will be the most important Congress of our time.”
