FBI offering $25K reward for info leading to suspect wanted for ballot box fires

The FBI has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to suspects in the ballot box fires in Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.

The first incident occurred in Vancouver on October 8, when a device with the words “Liberate Palestine” and “Liberate Gaza” written on it was placed in a dropbox.

A few weeks later, two more ballot boxes were set on fire, one in Portland and one in Vancouver. incendiary device The message “Liberate Gaza'' is engraved on it.

Both drop boxes were equipped with fire extinguishing systems, but the system in the Vancouver drop box malfunctioned and more ballots were destroyed.

Officials believe all three incidents are related, and the man suspected of setting fire to the drop box is an experienced metal fabricator who may be planning additional attacks. He said he thought so.

No ballots were damaged in the Oct. 8 incident. Only three ballots were damaged in the Portland arson, while hundreds of ballots were damaged in the Vancouver attack.

Greg Kimsey, the auditor-elect for Clark County, Washington, said the exact number of discarded ballots in Vancouver was unknown, but officials recovered about 475 damaged ballots from boxes. .

Kimsey previously called the arson a “direct attack on democracy” days before election day.
