Taylor Twellman pulled from MLS broadcast after physical altercation

Soccer broadcaster Taylor Twellman is under investigation by Major League Soccer after he allegedly got into an argument with a production assistant before a playoff broadcast on Apple TV in October.

The incident occurred when As reported by The Athletic This week involved a broadcaster and a program production sound engineer hired to help with the Oct. 25 playoff game between Inter Miami and Atlanta United.

According to the report, Twellman, 44, allegedly came into contact with an engineer inside the booth.

There is no video of the incident.

Only four people were inside the Apple TV+ booth at the time of the alleged altercation. Twellman, an audio engineer, Jake Zibin, a play-by-play broadcaster, and another unidentified person.

There were audio issues during the match broadcast, but it is unclear whether that was the cause of the incident.

Twellman, one of the biggest voices in ESPN's soccer broadcasts and a former MLS star, appeared on the Nov. 2 broadcast of Game 2 of the Atlanta-Miami series.

However, he was unable to participate in last weekend's deciding match.

According to a reporter for The Athletic, the decision to remove him from the Game 3 broadcast was made after production assistants filed a complaint with the union.

The final game was called by Steve Cangiarosi and color commentator Danny Higginbotham, and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami were surprisingly eliminated from the playoffs.

Twellman and MLS have not commented on the alleged incident.

Twellman is expected to return to the booth when the MLS playoffs resume on November 23rd, with a Western Conference semifinal matchup between LAFC and the Seattle Sounders.

The MLS postseason has been suspended due to international holidays.
