Texas A&M’s Mike Elko, Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin spar over night kickoff times

Texas A&M hosts New Mexico State on Nov. 16, and the Aggies enter the game as the overwhelming favorites, but start time could be a point of contention for one SEC coach.

Kickoff for the Texas A&M vs. New Mexico State game is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET.

Texas A&M is used to playing under the lights in its home stadium this season, with the team playing in three prime-time contests.

Texas A&M's first-year coach Mike Elko acknowledged the number of night games his team has scheduled in 2024 and used it as an opportunity to poke fun at Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin spoke openly about his discomfort watching LSU play multiple prime-time games at Tiger Stadium, known as Death Valley. Ole Miss' head coach compared LSU's night game to the Rebels' scheduled time in Saturday's early time slot.

Elko hinted lightly that he would trade Texas A&M's prime-time slot to Ole Miss in 2025.

“Another night game at Kyle Field,” Elko said in a radio interview Wednesday. “We appreciate them. Apparently, this is all we play anymore. … We've got them all, and Lane (Kiffin) wants more, so That's okay. He and I are going to swap next year or something.” [Kiffin}wantsmoresothat’sOKHimandIwe’llswapnextyearorsomething”

Kiffin responded on Thursday.

“Coach, trade me anytime. It's not fair to our fans,” he wrote. “By the way, check out the QB's play and score on the night at home and on the road.”

The Texas Longhorns are scheduled to visit Kyle Field on Nov. 30, and that game will likely be a candidate for a night kickoff. The official start time has not yet been announced.

Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies suffered upset losses to South Carolina, and Texas A&M received a bye last week. The team is ranked 15th in the latest College Football Playoff rankings and cannot afford to drop a game this weekend.
