President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has selected Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright to lead the new administration's Department of Energy.

On Saturday, President Trump released a statement announcing Wright's position in the new Cabinet.
“I am thrilled to announce that Chris Wright will join our administration as Secretary of Energy and as a member of the newly created National Energy Council,” President Trump said. “Wright is a leading engineer and entrepreneur in the energy sector.”
“He has worked in nuclear power, solar, geothermal, and oil and gas,” Trump's statement said. “Most importantly, Chris was one of the pioneers who helped launch America's shale revolution, which promoted American energy independence and transformed global energy markets and geopolitics.”
According to Liberty Energy's website, Wright earned a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT. He also continued graduate studies in electrical engineering at both the University of California, Berkeley and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The announcement comes as the Trump campaign focuses on energy independence and increasing oil and gas production.
During his campaign, President Trump promised to expand hydraulic fracturing and lift a moratorium on exports of liquefied natural gas, emphasizing a significant departure from his predecessor's policies.
The president-elect will use his second White House term to withdraw from the Paris climate accord again, roll back tougher emissions standards for cars and power plants, and expand U.S. oil and gas production, including through expanded hydraulic fracturing. promised to increase it.
