Two reminders we all need after the election: We are NOT a democracy, and the Electoral College is good

During the election period, we heard a lot about democracy. The left has promoted the theory that Trump will bring about the end of democracy, while the right has hailed him as a savior who will save the country from an undemocratic Biden administration.

mark levinHowever, it states that you should remember the following:[Our Founding Fathers] did not support democracy. They supported republicanism. ”

“Democracy means that factions can come to power or majorities can become tyrannical,” he says, noting that our nation's founders saw this in other countries. “I wanted nothing to do with it,” he added.

“They wanted republicanism. They wanted checks on power,” he explains.

That's why they enshrined certain principles in our Constitution.

That way, “you can't force people to vote away their rights,” Levin said. “If 90% of them don't think you should have the right to bear arms, that's too bad.”

The fact that our ancestors foresaw the inevitable problems of a true democracy and built our wonderful system proves that they were geniuses.

The creation of the Electoral College was equally impressive.

While we see people like Tim Walz advocating for its destruction, Levin knows the truth: It's to protect our nation.

“We choose our president through the Electoral College rather than direct election. Why?” Levin asks. “One person is the head of the whole chapter. We can't leave it to a popular vote, because then “the city would choose the president.''

“They came up with this wonderful Electoral College to create unions and make sure all sides of society were represented,” he explains.

Thanks to this wonderful balance system, “California is Montana, Wyoming, [or] It's Idaho. ”

“If there was a national popular vote, it would be [California] “We will,” Levin says.

“President” system [is] At the time, it was “unprecedented” to be elected by the people through the Electoral College, but not by the legislature. The ideas of “staggered terms'' and “bicameral parliaments'' were similar.

“So there are limits to the accumulation of power and the centralization of government,” Levin explains.
