Christian worship duo For KING + COUNTRY are gearing up to bring Christmas to our screens next month as they explore the true meaning of the annual holiday. New project “Drummer Boy's Christmas Live'' comes months after singers Joel and Luke Smallbone featured their family story in the biopic Unsung Hero. The brothers promise to deliver “a sonic journey that marries the sights and sounds of the season with expert music, heartwarming storytelling, and dazzling production.”
In an interview with CBN NewsJoel Smallbone expressed his excitement to bring the show to viewers.
“One of the things we love to do is the Christmas tour,” he said. “And we’ve done that almost every year since we started the band.”
The show was originally a live concert the band performed at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, which was attended by 12,000 people. Since the Christmas season is short, they plan to present musical experiences at theaters across the country.
“It's really beautiful,” Smallbone said. “This year, more than ever, we feel acutely that we need to uphold the main things and great characteristics of humanity: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and goodness. They’ll be back in the driver’s seat at Christmas.”
Overall, Smallbone said all future projects are about honoring the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ.
“This is a song about the baby Jesus, this is a song about the salvation of mankind, this is a song about B.C. to A.D.,” he said.
After the film's release, Smallbone said For KING + COUNTRY would be taking a year off from touring, their first time off since the band's formation.
“We're going to leave here…to write and record…and we're also going to go work on our next feature film, which we're planning to make next fall,” he said, adding that the band will then return to record these future releases. He explained that he plans to carry out this project.
“Drummer Boy's Christmas Live' will be released in limited theaters from December 5th to 9th.
