Trump picks ex-GOP Rep. Sean Duffy for transportation secretary

President-elect Trump announced Monday that he has selected former congressman and Fox Business host Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) to serve as secretary of transportation in his next administration.

“I am pleased to announce that former Congressman Sean Duffy from Wisconsin has been nominated to be Secretary of Transportation,” President Trump said in a statement. “Sean is a highly accomplished and popular public servant who began his career as a district attorney in Ashland, Wisconsin, and was subsequently elected to the United States House of Representatives in Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District.”

He has historically been a supporter of the president-elect, defending Trump's controversial 2017 executive order on immigration that imposed a 90-day ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries.

“What's wrong with pausing? There's a 90-day pause. Why is that so radical?” Duffy told CNN's “New Day” at the time.

Trump said in a statement Monday that Duffy “was a respected voice and communicator in the Republican conference, advocating for fiscal responsibility, economic growth and local development” during his time as a “congressman.”

President Trump also urged Duffy to run for governor of Wisconsin in 2022, saying he would “promote a very popular and talented former Wisconsin congressman, Sean Duffy, to run for governor in late 2021.” I'm trying my best,” he said.

Duffy said he will not run for Badger State chief executive in early or late 2022.

“I hope it doesn't ride off into the sunset,” Duffy told talk radio station 1130 WISN. “Right now, I'm riding off into the sunset. If the opportunity arises, I would love to return to Wisconsin and get involved in politics.”

Duffy currently co-hosts Fox Business' 6pm show, The Bottom Line. He has been contributing to the network since 2020.

The former Republican congressman is married to Fox host Rachel Campos Duffy, whom he met on a reality TV show and co-hosts “Fox & Friends Weekend.”

Campos-Duffy is a former co-host of Pete Hegseth, President Trump's nominee for Secretary of Defense, and Sean Duffy is the fourth current and former Fox host selected for the position in the incoming president's administration. becomes.
