MSNBC's “Morning Joe” senior contributor Mike Barnicle said Tuesday he doesn't see how cable news political commentators can make themselves “relevant again.”
Co-host Mika Brzezinski said, “A new study finds that one in five adults regularly gets their news from social media influencers.” This number is even higher among younger Americans, with nearly 40% of those under 30 getting their news from these sources. According to Pew Research Center, social media site X remains the most widely accessed platform, followed by Instagram and YouTube. ”
Co-host Joe Scarborough said, “Mike, that's the challenge. Just like Eugene grew up in newsrooms, you grew up in newsrooms. So the challenge for a lot of mainstream media sources is to It's about whether we can make them relevant again.” Here are the 20% of adults who are actually social media influencers. Maybe someone makes a basket, and while they're making the basket, they look up and say vote for candidate X. ”
Barnicle said: “We can’t compete with a 20-second snippet on an iPhone, so we don’t know how we can make ourselves relevant again. If you’re walking down the street, you can read the entire news of the day on your phone within a minute. “I can’t get the digest” as I walk through a crowd with my coffee in one hand and my phone in the other. I don't know how I can keep up with that. ”
