On Saturday, a Danish model was crowned the new Miss Universe 2024.
Victoria Kjaer Teilvig, a 21-year-old animal rights activist in the diamond business, has been named the winner of the 73rd World Heritage Award.rd Miss Universe pageant held in Mexico City.
The Danish model beat 120 other contestants to take the crown in a more traditional competition in 2023 that focused on plus-size, older and transgender contestants.
Many fans believe the pageant will break with traditional norms again this year, as Thai media mogul Ang Jakapong Jakrajtatip, a man who identifies as a biologically transgender woman, has taken over the pageant. I was expecting that.
Social media users commented and agreed with the new winner.
“But let's not overlook the reality here. Beauty pageants used to be a celebration of grace, poise, and, yes, natural femininity. But today, healthy, traditionally beautiful women It seems like the mere concept of taking on a role has become something of a cultural shock. It's a strange world when the norm becomes the exception, right?” one user commented on X.
Instead, a biological woman was declared the winner, and confused supporters scoffed and gloated on the internet.
“Yes, a real white biological woman won the contest. The world is healing,” one user posted on Twitter.
“Oh look! A woman won Miss Universe this year!” another X user posted.
X owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk even made fun of the pageant by sharing a meme without a caption.
“Breaking News: The Internet is stunned when an attractive biological human woman of a healthy weight wins the Miss Universe pageant,” the meme says.
In an effort to promote “social inclusion,” the competition changed its rules last year, removing age restrictions and encouraging women from unconventional backgrounds to participate. Former Miss Universe winners also declined the title in protest of the act, sparking a massive outcry.
In 2018, Spain's Angela Ponce became the first transgender contestant in Miss Universe.
Meanwhile, derogatory left-wing commentators scolded the contest judges who refrained from speaking out about the fact that she is a biological woman but still chose Teilvig, calling the decision “fascist at heart.” , claimed it was “racist” and exemplified “neo-Nazi tastes.” Because this year's winner is a blonde white girl with blue eyes.
Some have even argued that the judge's decision to select Teilvig shows that the panel's vision of ideals of beauty is outdated and reminiscent of 1950s beauty standards.
