“No, it's just as important, if not more important, especially if you have some level of success and access. “No” is more important than “no.” ”
“I mean, we've all looked around and realized we've overleveraged our lives with yes and said, 'Hey, hey, I'm producing a C-minus because I said yes, and all of that is me. 'There are too many things that are impacting my life.' “There are many times in my life when I'm on autopilot,'' he added.
Before moving to the Lone Star State, McConaughey and Alves, who married in 2012, lived in Malibu, California.

“That was my lane, and I loved that lane,” he said of his past romantic comedy work. “That lane paid well and worked out well, but that lane…I was so strong in that lane that anything outside of that lane, drama and all that, that I wanted to do was like, ‘No, no. I was like, “No, no, no, McConaughey.” Hollywood said, 'No, no, no, you should stay there, you should stay there.' ”
McConaughey said he wanted to expand his acting portfolio beyond romantic comedies, but Hollywood was initially reluctant.
This decision led to his family moving to Texas. Once there, he told his wife that he would only return to California if he was “offered the role I wanted.”
“Luckily, Camila was pregnant with our first child, so we had something to look forward to,” he told the tennis star. “But I still thought, “Humans have to work.'' Ringing the chime and doing garden work were hard work.''
In fact, McConaughey refused to sign on the dotted line unless it was a passion project for him.
In fact, he turned down the $15 million role and instead decided to star in another film a few weeks later when he was offered a more appealing script.
“That was probably my most rebellious move in Hollywood, because it really sent the signal, 'He's not a bluff,'” he recalled.
“I think that's what made Hollywood say, 'You know what?'” Now he's coming up with new, fresh ideas. He's a great new idea. ”
Shortly after, McConaughey signed on to appear on Dallas Buyers Club. The role earned him an Oscar and a modest salary of $200,000.
Since then, McConaughey has continued to star in blockbuster films such as Interstellar, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Mud.
