Drew Lock ‘upset’ with Giants passing over him for Tommy DeVito

On Wednesday, Drew Lock appeared to still be digesting the news that the Giants would not pursue him, instead making Tommy DeVito their starting quarterback this week.

The Giants had signed the veteran lock as a backup to Daniel Jones in the offseason, but when push came to shove on Monday, DeVito was head coach Brian Daboll's choice to play against the Buccaneers. caused confusion among some observers.

That includes Lock, who told the Post's Steve Serby after the Giants' practice Wednesday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, that he was “upset.”

“It's been six years and I've done a lot of press conferences,” Locke told the Post. “I think I can answer most of the questions. …I didn't know how to answer most of these questions today.”

“I'm just upset,” Locke added. “I can tell you're upset and confused. [are] There are two very good words to put in there. You understand where they're coming from, but at the same time, when you're that person, [QB2] You expect to be the next guy. This is an interesting situation that I didn't see coming, but I'm going to handle it professionally and as a human being. ”

A possible factor in DeVito earning the starting spot over lock is the fact that the second-year QB will become an exclusive free agent in 2025.

Therefore, giving DeVito a chance could help the Giants decide whether they want to keep him on the team next season.

Lock is a pending free agent after signing a one-year, $5 million contract during the offseason.

The sixth-year player was injured during the preseason, which may have influenced his decision-making.

The Giants made the decision to bench Jones earlier this week after the team entered the bye week with five straight losses.

Jones' $23 million injury guarantee, combined with Tim Boyle's signing to the practice squad, has moved Jones to fourth on the depth chart.

Big Blue is 2-8, at which point their season is effectively over and the organization will try to pick up the pieces for 2025.
