Former NCAA swimmer and conservative activist Riley Gaines recently shared on TikTok the story of her marriage to fellow UK native and former University of Kentucky swimmer Lewis Barker.
Barker and Gaines were both competitive swimmers in college. Gaines joined the University of Kentucky swim team and was a member of the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2019. She was also on the All-SEC Second Team in 2019 and 2020. Barker participated in the British Olympic Trials in 2016. Then in 2018, Barker participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Trial Qualifiers.

The two dated for two years from 2019 to 2021, and Barker proposed to Gaines in December 2021, announcing the proposal on social media. They married in May 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Now, Gaines, who has been vocal about illegal immigration and Vice President Harris' poor handling of the border crisis, said she and her husband have taken on immigration issues themselves in recent years. Gaines said that even though Barker entered the country legally, they have not been able to obtain citizenship or even a green card, even though they have been married for two years.
“Maybe you think he's on track to become a U.S. citizen, but you're wrong. We've been married for two and a half years, and he still doesn't have a green card. '' Gaines said.
Gaines said the couple received a letter in the mail. Barker was not granted citizenship because he has not received the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Think about how hard our government has been on people who immigrate to this country legally compared to people who have broken the law. , housing, driver's license, and money.”

Elon Musk posted a TikTok video of Gaines to X with a message advocating for legal immigration reform.
