OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has recently been looking into developing a web browser to pair with its chatbot. Information reported On Thursday, the companies had separate discussions or signed agreements to enhance their search capabilities.
The report said OpenAI has discussed the search product with website and app developers including Conde Nast, Redfin, Eventbrite and Priceline, citing people who have seen the product's prototypes and designs.
The move could put Sam Altman's company at odds with Google, which holds the largest share of the browser and search market. OpenAI has already entered the search market with SearchGPT.
Google owner Alphabet has been trying to increase its AI influence since launching ChatGPT in late 2022, and responded last year with its own generative AI chatbot, Gemini.
Alphabet shares fell about 1% in extended trading, after ending about 5% lower on Thursday.
Google's dominance in the browser market has been shaky since the Justice Department argued that Google should sell its Chrome browser to end its monopoly on online search.
OpenAI is also in discussions to include artificial intelligence capabilities in devices made by Samsung, Google's main business partner, the intelligence report said, citing people briefed on the situation.

The company already has a partnership with Apple, with the iPhone maker's “Apple Intelligence” features on its new devices powered by OpenAI's technology.
However, the information report states that OpenAI is not that close to launching a browser.
Google, OpenAI and Samsung did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
