After two weeks of contesting the election results, Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pennsylvania) conceded his race to Republican Dave McCormick.
Mr. Casey announced his concession in a video posted to social media on Thursday.
“I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate,” he said. “Once the first vote count is complete, Pennsylvanians will be able to move forward knowing their voices have been heard, whether their vote is counted first or last. can.”
“This race was one of the closest in the history of the Commonwealth, decided by less than a quarter of a point. Thousands of people worked hard to ensure every valid vote cast was counted. “We would like to thank election officials from all 67 counties,” he added.
Dave McCormick accepted Casey's concession and thanked him for his tenure.
“Senator Bob Casey dedicated his career to the betterment of the Commonwealth. Dina and I would like to thank Senator Casey, Senator Therese, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to their families. I am honored to represent all of Pennsylvania in the United States Senate, and I will fight for you every day. !” he said in a social media post.
Mr. Casey's concession comes just over two weeks after he repeatedly contested the election results despite seeing no path to victory. As Breitbart News reported:
Mr. Casey continued to refuse to concede the election to Mr. McCormick, saying election officials should “finish counting” the votes.
McCormick attended Senate orientation on Tuesday after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) refused to allow him to attend orientation.
