Tim Howard gives take on athletes doing ‘Trump Dance’

Former American soccer player Tim Howard has slammed athletes who try to tiptoe around political motives with a dance inspired by Donald Trump.

Christian Pulisic is the latest athlete to bust out the president-elect's famous dance moves and made plenty of headlines after scoring against Jamaica earlier this week.

Pulisic later said the celebratory dance was not politically motivated.

But that was an aspect that Howard didn't seem to believe and questioned on one issue. daily mail column on Thursday.

“If someone feels strongly against you, that's fine. But if you're going to make a political statement, be bold and brazen enough to stand by it,” Howard wrote. “Don't just sit back and protest your innocence like Christian Pulisic.”

Howard also added that he thought Trump's dance was “stupid.”

“Why? Because I will never support anyone I think is racist, whether it's the President of the United States or my neighbor. I'm not going to glorify it. I wouldn’t do that for anything,” the former U.S. soccer keeper wrote.

But Howard's obvious problem was that Pulisic said at the celebration that he did not support Trump.

“I thought it was funny,” Pulisic said after the game. “It was just a dance that everyone was doing.”

“You can't have it both ways. You're on one side or the other,” Howard also wrote in the column. “If you're bold enough to say it publicly, I have no problem with it. But own it.”
