Ex-Rep. Matt Gaetz teases run for Florida governor

Former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz hinted Saturday that he might run for governor of the Sunshine State, days after he withdrew his bid for President-elect Donald Trump's attorney general.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is term-limited and cannot run for re-election.

Gaetz announced Thursday that he is no longer a candidate to run the Justice Department, leaving some Republicans wondering whether he will try to regain the House seat he was re-elected to earlier this month or seek another position. (including the possibility of lobbying activities for the government). If Rubio resigns and becomes Trump's secretary of state, Marco Rubio's term in the Senate will end.

Gaetz resigned from the lame-duck 118th Congress shortly after President Trump announced his selection on November 13, but left open the possibility of taking office. His seat in the 119th Congresswill convene on January 3rd.

If Gaetz decides he wants to return to the House, he will have to contend with an ethics investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and illegal drug use. Gates has denied any wrongdoing.

Mr. DeSantis has called a special election for April 1, 2025, to fill Mr. Gaetz's seat in Florida's 1st Congressional District.
