Gang teen shot by NYPD is son of Westchester County police official

An alleged gang member shot and killed by police in the Bronx is the son of a high-ranking Westchester County police official, The Post has learned.

Chase Rackard, a reputed member of the Slutty Gang, was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Friday when police were called to a dispute over a firearm on White Plains Road, where the 19-year-old brandished a gun. Police said he was seen injured at Clayson Point. .

Rackard's mother is Mount Vernon Police Deputy Chief Jennifer Rackard, sources told the Post. She has held the position since 2020.

Jennifer Rackard, also a graduate of the NYPD's Citizen Police Academy, served as a representative on a local community board in the Bronx, according to a Mount Vernon Facebook post.

Calls seeking comment were not immediately returned.

This is not the first time her son has been involved in a shooting. Rackard, who was 17 at the time, was also shot in the chest last year after getting into a fight with three other youths on a BX5 bus in Soundview.

Officials say Rackard showed gang signs to the boys, ages 10 and 12, as they were getting off a bus in January 2023.

The suspect then allegedly asked the men about their gang affiliation and tried to pull one of them off the bus. Two shots were fired, one hitting Rackard in the chest.

Rackard was taken to Jacobi Hospital for treatment after Friday's shooting. Police said the man's condition is stable.
