The scripture that came to mind on the morning of November 6th was Psalm 126:3 (NIV).
The Lord has done wonderful things for us and we are filled with joy.
In the months leading up to the election, I continued reading the Old Testament. As I studied Kings and Chronicles, I noticed a pattern. When the kings of Israel obeyed God's laws, their nation prospered. However, when they began to worship false gods like Ashtoreth and Baal, their nation was hit with a curse.
Fundamental change in America may have finally stalled, and the work of foundational repair may now begin.
Over the past three and a half years, our country has experienced significant decline. If the Democratic Party wins, whether through fair means or not, the continuation and expansion of its policies will likely accelerate that downward spiral. But for now, there appears to be a reprieve. This moment may depend on our nation's willingness to turn to a God who loves and cares for us.
I have seen that fools may succeed for a time, but then disaster suddenly befalls them. (Section 3)
he [the Lord] Doing great things is too great to comprehend. He works countless miracles. (verse 9)
I had been praying for a miracle during this campaign, long before the July 13th assassination attempt, and it is clear that God was controlling events in ways that were beyond chance. Donald Trump has shown extraordinary resilience in the face of relentless attacks from a determined deep state. Against all odds, Trump not only won, but may now take on legendary status in history.
Events since his near-death experience in mid-July may have significantly changed President Trump's personality. Those who heard his speech in the early morning hours of November 6th likely noticed a new, humble tone.
Two verses seem to speak directly to what Trump's opponents have planned and unleashed against him.
And we know that in all things God works for good to those who love him, to those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28, NIV)
And Joseph's words to his brothers who sold him into slavery blessed them as they later rose to power in Egypt.
You meant harm to me, but God intended it all for good. He put me in this position so that I could save many people's lives. (Genesis 50:20, New Translation of the Bible)
Is America “out of the woods” because of this election result? Will Christians, Jews, and people of goodwill celebrate a great victory today only to return to complacency tomorrow? Let's hope that doesn't happen. Who can deny that our lack of vigilance has allowed evil influences to blind us? Like frogs in slowly boiling water, we almost woke up too late.
Pastors I've talked to and watched on TV agree: The 2024 election is not the finish line, it's the starting point.
We must continue to pray for the new administration. Let us pray for their wisdom and steadfastness as they work to purge our nation of evil and advance justice throughout our society and culture.
Fundamental change in America may have finally stalled, and the work of foundational repair may now begin.
As our Founding Fathers proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, “by trusting firmly in Divine Providence,” we can succeed in restoring true freedom and responsibility to America. In doing so, we can also renew hope and inspiration for countries around the world.
