Malik Nabers tees off on ‘soft as f—‘ Giants after embarrassing home loss

The New York Giants lost 30-7 at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, as Tommy DeVito was sacked four times and the offense only managed 17 first downs.

The lack of offensive production appears to be weighing on rookie wide receiver Malik Nabors, who didn't mince words when talking about the team after the game. He was targeted nine times and had six catches for 64 yards. All his goals were achieved in the second half.

He called the Giants “very soft” and complained about the play calling.

“The first quarter, the second quarter, we didn't get the ball,” Nabers said. new york post. “Start taking the target at the end. I mean, you can't do anything. Start taking the ball when it's 30-0. What do you want me to do?”

Nabors told reporters he would talk to head coach Brian Daboll when asked why he didn't get much attention early in the game.

“They would come up to me and ask me what kind of play I wanted, and that was it. I don't know.”

Despite a lack of targets in the first half, Nabers' numbers were good enough to lead the team in receptions for the game.

Daboll addressed Nabors' lack of targets during his postgame media availability.

“There weren’t a lot of plays,” he said. “Certainly, some people there called and they said I'm going to double him or something like that, whether that's the intended coverage or not. It was just better coverage of the play itself, instead of a lot of play.

“We tried to mix in the runs. We started the game with some good runs, but then we didn't really get going. The game got away from us and became a pass-a-thon. That's what we wanted. It’s not about being there.”

DeVito was asked if anything special happened regarding Nabers.

“No, not necessarily. Just looking at my reading. That's kind of how it happened,” he said.
