Omar said the campaign's choice to accept the support of former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, was a “big mistake.”

The Uncommitment Movement specifically withheld support from President Joe Biden and President Harris over their disapproval of the response to the war in Gaza. In particular, many Arabs and Muslims living in Michigan believed that the United States was not holding Israel responsible for the death and destruction in the Gaza Strip.
“For my generation and younger generations than me, you are the only person synonymous with war,” Omar said of Cheney.

As part of the Harris-Waltz campaign's strategy to attract disaffected Republicans, she has touted her support for former Rep. Cheney and even hosted an event for her and Harris in the battleground state of Wisconsin.

She also explained why she thought Harris had lost the city of Dearborn, Michigan, which is home to a large Arab community. He pointed to the fact that President-elect Donald Trump met with Democratic mayors, but Harris and Walz only agreed to send staff.
“I think that personal touch to the community made a difference,” Omar said. “We could have had that personal contact.”

Omar insisted she is willing to work with the Trump administration despite her history of criticizing and opposing Trump. But she insisted she would continue to oppose policies that are “harmful” to voters.

With Trump back in office, Omar said he was concerned that Israel would get the “green light” to “end its genocidal war.”
Harris Waltz's team could not be reached for comment by publication.
