Ryan Fitzpatrick suggested former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones take “the rest of the year off.”
Jones' tumultuous tenure with the Giants ended with the team benching the 2019 first-round draft pick and granting Jones' request for release.
The decision to part ways with Jones was said to be mutual, with Giants president and co-owner John Mara saying that moving on from Jones was “in the best interest of both him and the team.” Now that Jones has cleared waivers, he will be able to explore his options on the free agent market.
Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who played for nine teams during his career, offered some advice to the former Giants signal-caller.

“I'm really glad New York State released him because I think it puts him out of his misery a little bit. He didn't have to do that,” Fitzpatrick said. “And my advice to him is, I wouldn't sign anywhere. I'd just spend the rest of the year.”

Fitzpatrick also questioned the value of Jones joining a team that is effectively out of playoff contention in 2024.
“I don't see any reason to sign him as a reserve anywhere,” he continued. “I don't see any reason to sign with a bad team and play more games.”

Fitzpatrick said Jones has an opportunity to rejuvenate his career. If things turn out well for Jones, Fitzpatrick seems confident his future could resemble the resurgence of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold.

“This is one of those moments in his career where he really resets and relaxes a little bit and goes into the offseason and finds a good landing spot,” Fitzpatrick said. “And he's the type of guy who can land on his feet. With the right plan, the right place, the right coach, he could have a Sam Darnold-like comeback, but he's better than ever. I have to play much better.”
The Giants lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-7 in their first game without Jones this season.
