ARLINGTON, Texas — Tommy DeVito's status as the Giants' starting quarterback is on the line as he deals with a right forearm injury and is likely to miss the Thanksgiving game against the Cowboys, according to officials. It is possible that it was only for one game.
If that's true, Drew Lock will make his first start for the Giants.
DeVito was devastated when the Giants lost 30-7 to the Buccaneers last Sunday.
He had to leave the field for one play due to the wind. He also suffered an injury to his throwing arm.
DeVito did not travel to Dallas with the team on Wednesday to undergo further testing.
The Giants announced that DeVito will be on a later flight to meet up with the team on the road, but the injury is considered serious enough to cause him to miss the game.
After the overtime loss to the Panthers in Munich, head coach Brian Daboll's decision to bench Daniel Jones was no surprise.
It was a surprise to see Daboll bypass Lock (his backup all season) in favor of DeVito, who was the No. 3 quarterback all season.
The Giants signed Lock to a one-year, $5 million contract in the offseason, but Lock admitted last week that he was unhappy with the Giants' decision.
“I'm just upset,” Locke said. “I can tell you're upset and confused. [are] There are two very good words to put in there. You understand where they're coming from, but at the same time, when you're that person, [QB2] You expect to be the next guy. This is an interesting situation that I didn't see coming, but I'm going to handle it professionally and as a human being. ”
Lock, 28, has appeared in three games this season, most of which came in a 28-3 loss to the Eagles in Week 7 when Jones was benched.
But Lock couldn't find his spark in the second half, completing 3 of 8 passes for 6 yards.
Lock spent four seasons with the Broncos and one season with the Seahawks before joining the Giants.
