Black Monday is still a few weeks away, but Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated's Monday Morning Quarterback is already predicting a pretty tough day.
During an appearance on Tuesday's “Dan Patrick Show,” NFL officials said that Robert Saleh of the Jets and Dennis Allen of the Saints would be fired mid-year and that seven to 10 heads would be hired after the 2024 season. He hinted that the coaching position may become vacant.
“We have two, we have the Saints and Jets. I think we can agree that the Jags are kind of a fait accompli. So it's three. Dallas looks like it's going in that direction, so four. So we only need three more, so I think it's between seven and 10,” Breer said.
“I don't think it's going to be a record-breaker or anything, but I think it's somewhere between a 7 and a 10.”
Dallas coach Mike McCarthy is in the final year of his contract, and the Cowboys head into Thanksgiving against the Giants with an underwhelming 4-7 record.
The Jaguars are two seasons removed from making the playoffs. But coach Doug Pederson's team, led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence until he was injured after nine games, went 2-9 all year.
Jets owner Woody Johnson quit managing Saleh after a 2-3 start in October, but fired Allen earlier this month after the Saints lost seven straight.
Mr. Blair also urged Chicago to be careful, “What if?” [coach] Matt Eberflus won't turn things around over the next six weeks. ”
The Bears and prized rookie quarterback Caleb Williams have been off in five games since October.
They lost to the Vikings 30-27 in overtime on Sunday.
Besides the Bears (4-7), the Bengals (4-7) and Raiders (2-9) could also make changes after lost seasons under Zac Taylor and Antonio Pierce, respectively. This is a team with
Giants owner John Mara gave coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schon a vote of confidence in October, saying in part, “I'm not going to change anything in the offseason, either.” A lot has happened in the meantime.
Following the disappointing loss to the Panthers in Week 10, Daboll benched starting quarterback Daniel Jones following Tommy DeVito's 2-8 record.
Jones, the team's sixth overall pick in 2019, was later released and signed with the Vikings.
The Giants are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Buccaneers, who defeated Big Blue 30-7 at home on Sunday.
They are scheduled to visit the Cowboys' McCarthy on Thursday, with Giants backup Drew Lock likely to start after DeVito was injured in a Week 12 scuffle.
The regular season ends on Sunday, January 5th.
